2020 MD Lookback: a Year of Reaction and Evolution

Share

When we look back on 2020, perhaps the one event we all will remember is the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the year was spent navigating the pandemic amid shutdowns and changing regulations. We are proud of the way that our team continued to ensure our customers supply chain’s kept moving forward! Over the course of the year, we had to remain agile as the industry changed around us. Despite the pandemic being the main story of the year, there were a few other events that made our 2020!

Perhaps the highlight of our year was the acquisition of MD Logistics and MD Express by Nippon Express U.S.A. The Nippon Express global network allows us to expand our geographical footprint to enhance our domestic reach and introduce our customers to global solutions across 46 countries and 744 locations.  Having the ability to utilize a global freight forwarding and warehousing network with strategically located gateways and GDP facilities worldwide, allows us to expand our services and react to the growing needs of our customers and the industries we serve. The partnership has our team well positioned to evolve and continue to leverage each other’s expertise to better serve our customers.

In the summer, we sat down with local Indianapolis new station, RTV6, to discuss our hiring initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the logistics industry was already experiencing a labor shortage. RTV6’s Hiring Hoosiers segment highlighted our unique MD Logistics company culture and the benefits available to anyone who joins our team! We are always looking for motivated, team oriented individuals to join our team. To take a look at our open positions or submit your resume for future consideration, visit our website.

The MD Logistics blog turned three in 2020! If you have been following along on social media, you saw that  #MDbLogs was able to partner with our own MD Logistics experts to deliver new content last year. In the early days of the pandemic, we shared some helpful tips and tricks to navigating a new remote work environment from a full time remote member of our team. We shared some helpful thoughts to consider when building a warehouse safety program, including some pointers to keep your team members safe during the pandemic. As a throwback, we took a look at the evolution of the freight forwarding industry from the 90’s to present day. And finally, to round out the year, we sat down with the MD Express team to understand what it takes to build a lasting relationship with vendors in the transportation industry, which we relied on heavily over the last 12 months. We are excited to see what topics we will cover in 2021. Follow along with us on social media by searching the hashtag, #MDbLogs!

September brought the 13th Annual Dave Kiebach Memorial Golf Tournament at the Country Club of Indianapolis. We were pleased to be able to host a successful, socially distanced event remembering our friend, Dave. Annually, this tournament raises funds for the David H. Kiebach Smile Fund, in care of the Hendricks County Community Foundation. During a year when non-profits were having to navigate cuts to their funding, the funds raised from this tournament helped them to continue their operations and service in Hendricks County. We had the opportunity to talk to some of the organizations who benefit from the funds granted by the Smile Fund. While they are appreciative every year, receiving their grants this year was especially impactful.

We ended 2020 with the distinction of being named a Top 100 3PL by Inbound Logistics Magazine for the 9th consecutive year! Being recognized as a top provider in the logistics industry during a truly unprecedented year, was just the recognition that our team needed! 2020 was a year, unlike any other we have experienced as a company. President & CEO, Mark Sell, had a chance to discuss his thoughts of the year and his predictions for how the COVID-19 pandemic will impact the logistics industry in the years to come. If you haven’t had a chance, take a look at his letter! We remain optimistic as we move forward into 2021. Thank you for continuing to be a part of our journey!
